How do you spell that town down the road?

From Reuters comes this article:
“Tire, Lebanon (Reuters) – A protest by Muslim clerics torpedoed a Brazilian samba show in the Lebanese city of Tire on Thursday, local officials said.”

Reuters misspelling Tyre as Tire

Hmm, last I remember there was a city named Tyre in Lebanon – the one that was famous in ancient times for Tyrian purple dye. I’ve never heard of Tire.

A quick check on Wikipedia, searching for Tire, Lebanon, returns a results page that says at the very top of the page (including the link to Tyre):
Did you mean: tyre lebanon

Props to Tom Perry (writer) and Paul Casciato (editor) – at least Tire is a word that’s phonetically identical to Tyre!
